GTF invested R$ 1.8 million in animal welfare initiatives between January and June of this year. According to the company, the funds were primarily allocated to the Paraíso do Norte unit in Paraná, covering the acquisition of equipment, improvements to poultry handling and transport processes, and staff training.
These investments include the ongoing purchase of crates and other operational equipment, as well as technologies for monitoring environmental conditions. The company also maintains protocols for controlling temperature, humidity, and ventilation at the farms and in the holding sheds at its industrial facilities.
The strategy also involves adopting technical indicators to track the condition of the birds throughout the production chain. At the farms, teams monitor aspects related to health, behavior, feed, hydration, and thermal comfort on a daily basis. During transport, drivers and specialized professionals follow protocols designed to minimize stress and monitor environmental conditions along the route.
Upon arrival at the industrial facilities, the birds are kept in holding areas where temperature, humidity, and ventilation are controlled. Handling—from unloading to stunning prior to slaughter—is carried out by trained professionals and monitored using indicators related to animal welfare and process performance.
In 2024, the Paraíso do Norte facility received the international PAACO certification for Animal Welfare. This recognition establishes requirements regarding handling practices and procedures adopted by companies in the sector and has become part of GTF’s strategy for monitoring and improving protocols.
In addition to the certification, the company employs internal and external audits and tracks indicators such as the birds' physical integrity and stunning efficiency. According to the company, the data is used to identify areas for improvement and adjust operational procedures.
"We continuously invest in technologies, modern infrastructure, and innovative processes that prioritize animal welfare. We believe that appropriate environments, responsible handling, and the use of best practices result in healthier animals, directly reflecting the excellence of our services and the quality of our products," stated Rafael Tortola, CEO of GTF.
For Viviane Danas Farias, a veterinarian and GTF’s corporate lead for Animal Welfare, the protocols adopted by the company are based on technical criteria and international standards.
"Animal welfare is part of our culture and is integrated into all our operations. We work continuously to provide the best conditions for the birds, always grounded in science, legislation, and leading international standards," she stated.
